I was born in London, United Kingdom and after emigrating, grew up along the eastern seaboard of Australia. I took up music and writing in these years performing in orchestras and jazz bands in concert halls, clubs and opera houses. I then worked as a musician, public servant and teacher.
My first publications were short stories and poetry in Canberra literary journals. At this time I began to work on longer form prose culminating in the jazz novel, Olivia’s Choice. Other publications followed in Overland, Pelt, Vernacular and Famous Reporter. My short story Cool And Wet To The Touch won the Cliff Green Short Story Competition in 2018. It was then selected for publication in Award Winning Australian Writing 2018 (Melbourne Books).
Some of the poets and writers who have influenced me include Dylan Thomas, Rosemary Dobson, Gwen Harwood, Robert Frost, W.G Sebald and Peter Temple.
Within this website you will find samples of my poetry, short stories, novels and links to music reviews.
Current projects include the Lim Hong crime series (Kind of Blue) a young adult novel, The Orphanage of Lost Music, and a short story collection, Two Oranges.
